"Runtime Expected" message on agent.

Post by dmconsulting1 » Mon Oct 25, 2021 5:59 pm

I installed the agent and when I tried to push a test to it, Studio reported that it couldn't find the 10.1.2 runtime. I installed studio and that cured the situation, but I don't have studio installed on the other agent, so what am I missing?

Hi,

Please make sure there is available runtime license! If you are running tests via remote agent, there must be available runtime license (or another Studio license). If you have only Studio license available, then you are out of luck with remote execution. You need at least one Runtime license available.

I don't have anything else using a runtime license at this time. I am only running one agent at a time, so it should only need one license (I believe we have a few, so one should be available).

Hi,

OK, and are you sure those available licenses are valid for 10.1.2? You see, if your service period is expired, the licenses you own may not necessarily be valid with most recent Ranorex version!

I honestly have zero idea what my license status is or where to go to look. I tried to run this morning and got this message on the agent machine.

The License Manager 'xxxxxxxxx.xxx' was contacted, but no suitable license was available. Please add additional licenses to your License Manager or wait until licenses become available.

I thought that if no other agents were in use that a runtime license would be available but that is obviously incorrect. I have reached out to my sales rep, It was my understanding that our licenses were current and that we had enough. This is a hot mess right now between getting stuff to run (local) and getting stuff to run (remote).

Hi,

Well, apparently, you recently updated Ranorex, right? If the Studio still works and you are sure that there are purchased and installed some runtime licenses, then you must ask someone responsible if runtime licenses are renewed too?

Ideally, log on to the machine on which is installed Ranorex license manager and check the state of maintenance period of each available license...

If the date is in the past or there are no runtime licenses available, you have the answer. Someone responsible maybe forgot to enter new (renewed) license keys? Once a license is renewed, new key(s) must be entered in license manager.

Ha, well looking at the server, the license key says "maintenance until 2020/06" so maybe that's the issue? Why it worked until I upgraded to 10 is interesting, but it seems my keys are a bit dated. It's still running for the build server, so that's good.

Thanks a lot for the info, that helps to clarify at least a few things.

Hi,

There is no mystery why it worked before you installed 10.x. Ranorex will still work, even with expired maintenance period and you can still download all major and minor Ranorex updates up to the maintenance expiration date (in your case 9.3.2, released in May 2020). Too bad your company forgot to renew the licenses, because now it will be costly ;)

So the company renewed the licenses, they have been "installed" but I am still unable to run. IT is supposed to have a call with a tech today to figure out why the new keys aren't being recognized.

Unfortunately I don't have server access so I can't do much. I can only tell Ranorex what I have and hope for the best.
